If you are of an observant nature, you could very well be met by a rare sight when traveling on the heath of central Jutland. Just outside the city of Herning, Aage Damgaard Co. Ltd., the parent company of A Hereford Beefstouw, has erected a 16 metre tall cobber pyramid – as a wine cellar.
The pyramid, which was commissioned in 2008, holds the company’s subterranean wine storage facility. Here, the company keeps approximately 250,000 bottles of wine from all regions of the world. The house red wine is kept in the ground level of the pyramid in 6 large steel tanks. When full, the tanks hold up to 36,000 liters of red wine.
The company CEO and part owner Lars Damgaard, personally handpicks all the wines that are sold at the A Hereford Beefstouw restaurants, as well as he has traveled Europe to pick out the exact composition of the company's house wine.
The aesthetics of the 16-metre tall cobber pyramid is no coincidence. As Lars Damgaard points out, art and design have always been inherent parts of A Hereford Beefstouw: “Whenever we open a new restaurant, we always do so in close collaboration with artists and designers in order to get inspired and promote creativity”. In terms of inspiration, we make no secret of what has inspired the pyramid in Lund.
